Tides of Kilwa is a Mohallah fishing game. One child, one line, one stretch of moving water: hold to lower the hook, slide a finger to lean against the current, and let go to reel in. Small fish near the surface come easily; the bigger catches wait in deeper, faster water.

The water is the game. The line curves, trails, and sways with the current, and a child gets better by learning to read the ripples and compensate early. Each run is short, the scene never changes, and the challenge rises tide by tide on the same stretch of water. The only score that matters is beating your own best catch before the tide turns.

For parents, Tides of Kilwa is focus and patience dressed as a fishing trip. The setting is a fictional fishing cove inspired by Kilwa and the southern Swahili Coast around 1320 to 1350, when Kilwa stood at its height: a real African Muslim maritime society whose coral-stone towns were woven into Indian Ocean trade. There is nothing to buy, no leaderboard, and no timer shouting at anyone: just a child on a stone shelf above the water, a curved line in a moving current, and a personal best to beat. The real Kilwa's ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, worth showing a curious child.
